I hope this message finds you very well! As we close the chapter on 2024, we hope it was filled with fulfilling experiences and that you are looking forward to an exciting and meaningful year ahead!
I am writing to share my own exciting news. I have decided to take my passion for community banking to new heights by accepting a full-time position with the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA), the national association for advocacy, innovation, and education for community banks. I will be on their executive team, specifically in charge of member engagement. I am excited to make an impact on the 2,600 community banks across our great nation! In addition, I hope I can further help our elected officials in Washington understand the value of community banks.
I assure you I was not seeking a new opportunity, but I believe it was seeking me. Sometimes God opens doors, and you simply must trust Him and walk through them. While this was an extremely challenging decision, I want to do what I can to ensure the community banking model stays viable for generations to come. In addition, because this position is remote, I will be able to continue living in this fantastic area and will continue to serve on the Board of Directors and as an advisor to the Bank.
As I embark on this new chapter, I am delighted to announce that Kari Nelson will assume the role of Interim President of Glenwood State Bank on February 10th. This appointment holds special significance for the Martinson/Nelson family, as Kari's father, Dennis Martinson, dedicated 23 years of service as President. She spent her childhood exploring the halls of our Bank and building her career in various roles within the organization. This, paired with her passion for community, people, and community banking, Kari is a truly fitting choice for this position.
Although there will be changes in title and roles, the Bank's foundation does not change. Our ownership remains the same, our values remain the same, and our purpose of positively impacting our customers, employees, and communities through Christian principles remains the same. Furthermore, Kari and I have collaborated as partners in leading the Bank for many years, ensuring a consistent approach moving forward.
It has been a privilege to walk alongside and serve you all of these years. Though my title and responsibilities will change, I will continue to care for our communities and be committed to the long-term success of Glenwood State Bank!
With sincere gratitude,
Peter Nelson
President (2006-2025)
